William H. Sissel saved Cecil P. Cornett from drowning, Kamay, Texas, June 29, 1938. Cecil, 13, schoolboy, fell from a walkway that crossed an irrigation canal 12 feet from gates through which water rushed at a speed of 10 m.p.h. Sissel, 69, laborer, jumped from the walkway 23 feet from the bank, got hold of Cecil’s hair, and was submerged briefly where the water was 14 feet deep. Cecil got hold of Sissel’s wrist and became unconscious. Holding his breath, Sissel then swam and drifted 65 feet towing Cecil, his head being under the surface most of the time, to the bank. They were aided from the water, and Cecil was revived. 38356-3168
