William H. T. Seamon, 60, crossing watchman, died attempting to save Ellie F. Cochran, 30, and Roberta Gibbs, 18, from being killed by a train, Galena, Kansas, February 5, 1919. Mrs. Cochran and Miss Gibbs crossed a railroad crossing in an automobile when a train was approaching at a speed of 10 m.p.h. After crossing the track, the automobile backed toward it. Seamon took hold of the automobile and exerted his strength in an attempt to prevent it from going on the track, but the locomotive struck it.
