William H. Vonada saved Robert B. Campbell from being killed by a locomotive, Sunbury, Pennsylvania, September 26, 1933. Campbell, 78, who was rather deaf and had lost the sight of one eye, walked toward a track on which a locomotive was approaching at a speed of 15 m.p.h. Vonada, 59, crossing watchman, who because of an old injury walked mostly on the ball of his left foot, ran at an angle facing the locomotive 30 feet, crossed one rail, and reached Campbell when the locomotive was but 16 feet distant and Campbell was stepping over the other rail. Still holding his stop sign and flag, Vonada pushed Campbell backward ahead of him off the track. Vonada’s coat was brushed by the locomotive as it passed at a reduced speed of 3 to 4 m.p.h..
