William K. Fulton, 51, retired, saved Marilyn Mantler, 9 months, from drowning, Spring Lake, New Jersey, September 3, 1927. Marilyn was in a baby carriage close to the bank of Spring Lake when the carriage ran down the bank into the water and toppled over. Marilyn was thrown into water 4.5 feet deep eight feet from the bank. Fulton, who was an invalid and was barely able to walk or use his arms, shuffled slowly down the bank and waded to Marilyn. He lifted her and started back to the bank, but, three feet from it, he stopped and was in a state of near collapse. Men arrived and relieved him of Marilyn, and he was helped to the bank. He was not seriously affected by the act. 27670-2332
