William L. Dillard, 33, liveryman, helped to save R. Augustus Baty, 26, carpenter, from an impending fatal fall, Highlands, North Carolina, May 14, 1911. (See case of CHARLES N. WRIGHT.) Dillard followed Wright part way down the cliff and then lost his nerve, and Wright assisted him a few steps to a place of safety. In a few minutes he continued to the end of the hedge at the open space, where he stayed until Wright had gotten Baty to the hedge opposite him. Being urged by Wright, he crossed over and assisted to get Baty across the open space and up the cliff.
