William Pratt attempted to save Horace M. Parham, 43, farmer, from suffocation, Mableton, Georgia, August 10, 1914. (See cases of HORACE M. PARHAM and HENRY H. ROGERS.) Pratt, 57, farmer, was approaching the well when Rogers was leaving. Rogers told him that there was danger in the well and that he had better not go down. However, Pratt descended into the well by using the niches. He was not familiar with the well and was delayed several minutes 20 feet from the top because he could not find the niches with his feet. He began to feel sick and called for a rope. When one was lowered to him, he descended to the bottom and tied the rope around Parham. Pratt then became unconscious. Both men were pulled to the top at the same time, a turn of the rope having caught Pratt around the leg. Pratt was revived in about two hours. 15485-1139
