William R. Moore saved William R. Parshall and an unidentified woman from drowning, Waco, Texas, April 5, 1908. Parshall, 20, waiter, drove into shallow water in the Bosque River, and while his horse was drinking, it got into deep water. Parshall and a woman who was with him in the buggy were thrown into the water. Parshall, who could swim but a few strokes, and the woman, who could not swim, struggled together. The horse swam away. Moore, 25, bookkeeper, ran 200 feet, took off his shoes and coat, and jumped into the water despite the warning of a companion. He swam 30 feet to the rescue. His companion again called to him to come back. The woman tried to grasp Moore as he approached her, but he avoided her and grasped her extended hand as she and Parshall were about to go beneath the surface. Moore swam 30 feet to wadable water with the woman, Parshall holding to the woman. 9678-1085
