Wilson S. Sweeting died after helping to save Milburn J. Harris and assisting in an attempt to save Charles D. Lewis from drowning, Conowingo, Maryland, February 15, 1975. When Harris, 40, broke through the ice on a pond, Lewis, 45, went to his aid but also broke through. Sweeting, 70, retired toolmaker, and another man approached. Using tree limbs, they removed Harris, who went to the bank. When Sweeting and the other man attempted to get Lewis out, the ice broke under them, creating another hole. Sweeting drowned; but the other man and later Lewis was removed by persons using rescue aids. 54514-6163
